U.S. Minimum Wage Poster 2025

Federal labor laws in the U.S. set the benchmark for labor policies implemented across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and related U.S. territories.

A key component of these laws is the Fair Labor Standards Act, which outlines requirements for minimum wage, overtime, and employee recordkeeping in the U.S. Employers in the U.S. are covered by both federal and state laws, however, if these laws conflict, employers must adhere to the regulations that offer more favorable terms to their workers.

Since July 24, 2009, the federal minimum wage has stood at $7.25 per hour and as of the year 2025, this wage has not changed, prompting many states in the U.S. to have their own minimum wage laws offering increased protections and benefits to employees.

Additionally, wage laws in the U.S. also allow employers to pay a reduced hourly wage to tipped employees. Under federal law, a tipped employee earns at least $30 in tips monthly. Employers are allowed to pay tipped employees a minimum wage of $2.13 per hour, given that the employee’s tips combined with the reduced wage equal the federal minimum wage.

Where tip credit is allowed under federal law, some states do not allow it, mandating that tipped employees receive the full state minimum wage in addition to their tips.
