Charlie’s Honest Review of Fieldwire
2025

Fieldwire promises to be the ultimate field management solution, but does it stand up to the demands of real-world construction?

Written by Charlie Fitzgibbon
By Charlie Fitzgibbon, Construction Professional

After 15 years in construction, managing various construction projects, from residential builds on tight plots to multi-acre townships, I’ve tested enough construction management software to know when something is worth my time, and when it belongs in the skip.

I’ve seen platforms that promise to revolutionize the industry but barely manage to unpack their toolbox before being sent home. So, when I came across Fieldwire, a construction management platform launched by the popular power tool powerhouse Hilti, I had to take a look.

Does it actually help construction teams perform better on site, or is it just another tech gimmick with a well-known brand’s logo stickered all over it? We’ll winf out in this Fieldwire review. Let’s dig in.

This Review Covers:

Overview

Fieldwire is a cloud-based construction site management software aimed at keeping field teams and office staff pulling in the same direction. Unlike other platforms that try to do everything under the sun (and usually fail), Fieldwire sticks to the fundamentals of construction project management.

There are no bells, no whistles, and no frills – just muddy boots and hard hat-driven, pragmatic tools. With a clear field crew focus point, it is clear that Fieldwire is aiming to make its mark on job site use more so than back in the office.

The job site is the business end of any construction business, and getting systems and processes in place to improve efficiencies where dirt meets concrete should, in theory, drive a successful bottom-up approach to construction management.

But does it work?

What Features Does Fieldwire Have?

Fieldwire is not a jack-of-all-trades construction software. Instead, it positions itself as an effective, no-nonsense platform focused on making life on the job site run smoother. Let’s check out some of its key features:

Task Management

Fieldwire offers a task management system that allows users to assign, track, and manage work elements with clear deadlines, parameters, and resource allocation. Tasks can be organized in different views, including Kanban boards, Gantt charts, or straightforward lists.

Tasks can also be linked to relevant plans, photos, and notes, ensuring that the right information is attached to the work being done. For teams that handle repetitive jobs, Fieldwire supports recurring tasks, making it a capable tool for ongoing maintenance and inspections.

Plan Viewing & Markups

Another of Fieldwire’s core features is its drawing and document management system. Users can upload and store drawings, site documents, and plans directly in the app. Marking up and annotating plans can be done from site with either a mobile phone or laptop, with the ability to add notes, highlight key areas, and share updates with the team in real time.

Revision tracking ensures that everyone is always using the latest version, reducing the risk of working from outdated information. Fieldwire also allows users to link tasks and RFIs directly to drawings, making it straightforward to see what needs to be done and where.

Punch Lists & Inspections

Punch lists and snagging tasks can be generated, tracked, and documented directly within Fieldwire. The platform allows tasks to be created, assigned, and tracked across a job site as well as to individual managers.

Each punch list item can have photos and notes attached, providing clear documentation of issues that need to be addressed. The system also supports automated reporting, allowing project managers to be notified when snagging tasks are created, in progress, and completed, without having to chase site managers.

Offline Access

Construction projects don’t always have reliable internet access, which is why offline functionality can make a big difference in construction management software. Fieldwire offers offline functionality across the majority of its functions.

Users can view plans, manage tasks, and log snags even in areas with no connectivity. Changes are automatically synced once the device reconnects to the internet, ensuring that no data is lost. This feature is particularly useful for rural or underground job sites where staying connected isn’t always possible.

How Much Does Fieldwire Cost?

Fieldwire offers a transparent and flexible pricing structure, a welcome break indeed:

  • Basic Plan (Free): Limited functionality, suitable for small teams or testing the software before committing.
  • Pro Plan ($39/user/month): Includes additional features such as report exporting, custom task statuses, and sheet comparison tools.
  • Business Plan ($59/user/month): Adds custom forms, API integrations, and BIM viewing.
  • Business Plus Plan ($89/user/month): Designed for large-scale operations needing company-wide integration and priority support. Includes RFI’s & submittals, change orders, and budgeting tools.

What Features Do I Like About Fieldwire?

Built for Site, Not Just the Office

The developers at Fieldwire clearly have a focus on on-site teams, which I think is the right approach. The business end of construction happens out in the field, and I think too many times this is forgotten by construction management software developers.

Fieldwire’s mobile app is intuitive, and doesn’t compromise on functionality or useability. This is software that I can see foreman, site managers, and subcontractors getting on board with, rather than having to work with an adapted platform that prioritises the needs of desk based roles.

Task and Punch List Efficiency

Managing tasks and punch lists within Fieldwire is straightforward, but what I like the most is that they integrate with project drawings and documentation. Snagging items, RFIs, and tasks can be linked to specific documents, making the whole user experience more intuitive and efficient.

This is another example of Fieldwire thinking about site teams and the typical processes in real terms. Not only does linking tasks and communications to drawings improve efficiency, but it also reduces the risk of tasks being missed or forgotten about.

Offline Mode is a Lifesaver

Fieldwire’s offline mode ensures uninterrupted productivity when internet connectivity is unavailable – a common occurrence in construction. Site teams can continue to access plans, update tasks, and mark progress without being hindered by connectivity issues.

Once a connection is re-established, all updates and changes automatically sync, ensuring the team’s work is always up-to-date and no data is lost.

What Features Do I Dislike About Fieldwire?

No Built-In Financial Management

Fieldwire’s focus on project coordination and task management delivers solid results across these features, however, the financial functionality feels a bit short of the mark. Other than basic budgeting and cost features, there are no dedicated project financial features such as cost tracking or estimating.

The lack of financial functions makes me think that you would need to couple FIeldwire with another financial management software to be able to fully cover what’s required to run a construction project.

In my book, if you’re investing in a construction management software platform, it should be capable of handling all elements of the job, which unfortunately, I think Fieldwire just doesn’t do.

Upside down pricing

Whereas I appreciate Fieldwire offers a free package, something I wish more construction management software developers offered, I find the distribution of features amongst the paid packages unusual.

What I would consider to be basic features, such as RFI’s, change orders, and budgeting, are reserved for the highest-paid package.

I’m not sure if this is a deliberate move to direct users to the higher-priced plan, but I think a fairer approach would be to allow fundamental features in the introductory packages, and the more complex features for the higher price.

I find this approach somewhat off-putting, and it would make me think twice about becoming a new customer.

Limited Customization

While Fieldwire offers a simple, easy-to-use interface, its customization options may feel restrictive to companies with complex workflows. Larger teams, or those with specialized needs might find the platform’s limited customization options frustrating compared to more developed solutions like Procore or BuilderTrend.

For instance, customizing reports, task management workflows, or user permissions is limited, which could be a drawback for businesses that need advanced tailoring to meet specific project demands.

While Fieldwire excels at simplicity and ease of use, it might not provide the flexibility required by organizations looking to implement highly personalized systems for different departments or teams.

What Do Others Say About Fieldwire?

But don’t just take my word for it. Let’s see what others have to say:

Positive Feedback About Fieldwire

What Fieldwire users say they like:

  • “What I liked the most about Fieldwire is the possibility to work as a team. Everyone is connected, and we are all able to see in real time what is going on in each project, from daily logs, to notes and marks on plans.” – Marvin (Source: Software Advice)
  • “For an estimator, the document “Compare” feature is the most important. It allows me to capture all of the changes that the design team makes, even if they “forget” to mention it in their write-up.” – Katie. (Source: Software Advice)
  • “Dropping as many pins as needed to take measurements and attach photos and videos.” – Verified User (Source: TrustRadius)

Negative Feedback About Fieldwire

What Fieldwire users say they don’t like:

  • At the beginning, it was a little difficult to add another user to a determined project, but it was a matter of getting to know the software.” – Marvin (Source: Software Advice)
  • “Adjusting the scale and adjusting the drawing to overlay it correctly when a consultant offers only a small detail, and doesn’t re-issue a complete drawing can be somewhat cumbersome.” – Katie. (Source: Software Advice)
  • “Fieldwire acts weird with ipad sometimes. If the plan is rotated while uploading and I use that plan to take photo in the site, I need to keep on rotating my tablet (a total of 3 times) to take photo. Still, the uploaded photo turns out to be upside down on computer.” – Verified User (Source: TrustRadius)

What Are Fieldwire’s Review Ratings From Other Sites?

As of March 2025:

  • Software Advice: 4.6/5
  • TrustRadius: 8.3/10
  • Capterra: 4.6/5
  • G2: 4.5/5

My Final Verdict on Fieldwire?

Fieldwire is a good choice for small to mid-sized contractors needing a fast, intuitive, and effective tool to drive productivity on-site. Its field-based orientation will mean site managers and subcontractors will love it, however, some basic features are either lacking or reserved for the highest-paying customers only.

Large firms needing financial management and deep analytics may want to look toward more powerful, comprehensive products.

Final Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Stars.
